| The Summer Transportation Institute is a four-week residential summer program to acquaint 9th and 10th grade students with career opportunities in the transportation industry, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and hosted by Langston University. Twenty students from all areas of Oklahoma will be selected to participate in the program. |

Field trip to the Federal Aviation Administration Presentation by Tuskegee Airmen Model rocketry Presentation by the Federal Highway Administration Build popsicle stick bridges Mix concrete and test the strength at materials lab Drunk driving simulation Field trip to a highway construction site Field trip to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration site Observe Highway Patrol troopers inspect tractor trailers See drug dog in action Field trip to tractor trailer driving school in Drumright Field trip to UPS Presentation by the Federal Railroad Administration Trip to Houston, Ft. Worth, and Dallas, Texas, including visits to Coast Guard, NASA, BNSF Railroad Operations Center, and return flight on Southwest Airlines |

| The Summer Transportation Institute provides a stimulating introduction to all modes of transportation, as well as enhancement activities such as SAT-prep and sessions on time management, communication skills, study habits, computer skills, and team building. The Institute also includes a sports and recreation program for evenings and weekends. In addition to an educational and fun four weeks, each student receives a $400 stipend upon completion of the STI program. | ||
